my Paradigm Monitor 5 v2....... the problem is
only one speaker not both..
When I hook up the problemed speaker to the amp
the amp starts to really heat up and hardly
no sound comes out of the speaker... the other
side just works fine.. So I hooked the problemed side
on a reciever.. the same thing happens.. there is
hardly no sound and when i try to raise the volume
the reciever shuts down.. What is wrong?? |

Check the connection on the back of the amp. see if the + and - is being short... |

| re: help.. something is wrong with my Monitor 5 v2... | Audiophile Jul 29, 2002 7:44 PM | | well.. see if the + and - from your amp is touching each other...
and is your paradigm speaker new? or used? |
| re: help.. something is wrong with my Monitor 5 v2... | namjama Jul 29, 2002 8:05 PM | | I bought the speakers new about 5 monts ago...
I had no problems till now... and i've been trying
to solve the problem... I think the problem is in
the speaker..... because i've tried the other speakers
just like the problemed one and works fine.... |

It had a bad input so i just rotozipped a hole and stuck another in the hole. It would send my amp into protection mode every time it had any decent amount of power sent out. |

My guess, especially since you've disconnected and re-connected the speaker to different amp/receiver, that if wires are touching it may be on the speaker end, or inside the speaker itself. Your amp probably didn't shutdown because it was able to handle the very low impedance. |
| sounds like a fried woofer | yogo Jul 30, 2002 8:35 PM | | have somebody with an ohmeter read the ohms value across the speaker terminals and compare that to readings from the other speaker. Most speakers are rated somewhere between 4 and 8 ohms. I'll bet the bad speaker reads much lower than the good one. Rat shack has inexpensive ohmeters if ya need one. The sales gerbil may also give you hints on how to use it, it's pretty simple. |
| Thanks for the replys.. | namjama Jul 31, 2002 7:07 PM | | Luckly I had found the problem and fixed it..
The problem was in the cables.. whew thank God
it wasn't the speakers..
Any ways thanks for all the help.. |
