| Klipsch RF-5's A Plesant Surprise: | Doug C Jul 30, 2002 9:13 AM | | In 30 years I never auditioned Klipsch speakers until recently. Never considered them because of the general reputation that has always floated around regarding Klipsch being bright.
I ended up purchasing Klipsch RF-5's to go with a 2-channel system set up in a spare bedroom using a 2 watt/channel Decware Zen tube amp. Speaker choices were limited to the few high efficiency models avaliable.
The RF-5's did smooth out considerably on the highs during the first 100 hours of play. Many of my CD's that were simply bland on my main system really jump to life with the Zen/Klipsch combo. Gobs of clarity, detail and dynamics (would not characterize the sound I'm getting as bright or fatiguing). As with any speaker in this price range a sub is required to achieve realistic bass levels.
Was wondering how many out there have had Good or Bad experience with Klipsch? I rarely see much talk here about Klipsch. I've been very impressed with these speakers!

Enjoy!

| KSF 8.5s | midfiman Jul 30, 2002 10:40 AM | | I had the delight of purchasing a pair of these speakers from Tweeter at only $300/pr some years back and they are still, to this day, perhaps the best value I have ever gotten in Home Theater... |
| KSF 8.5s | 2 channel Jul 30, 2002 10:49 AM | | I bought mine from Tweeter also, on the same deal! They have KSF 10s there now for 599. I'm pretty tempted! |

| re: Klipsch RF-5's A Plesant Surprise: | wanderingbob Jul 30, 2002 2:55 PM | | I use Klipsch mains, center and surrounds in my music/HT system:
RF-7's - mains
RC-7 - center
RS-7 - surround
Overall, I am very satisfied with the sound of the these speakers for both music and HT. I like "live" listening levels and drive the system with B&K Reference series amps (220 WPC RMS). I can't foresee any desire at all to upgrade to different speakers for HT, but I would like to audition Magnepan MG 20.1's, Martin Logan Prodigy's, and Quad ESL 989's along with Krell or Levinson electronics for a "music only" system if I can ever afford such things.

I have the RF-3II's & Matching Center for my HT. But, when I hook the fronts up to My Parasound P/PH 850 and Rotel RB 976 150x3, I find that I get Goo-Gobs Of Bass in my 15X15 Livingroom (No Sub Needed). Other than needing a new CD Player, I'm pretty much set for many years to come.
Happy Listening,
Jalen |
