what would give more bassmikert456
Dec 8, 2002 8:56 PM
I was curious what would give more bass and more slam in the chest. would it be two pw2200 paradigms(12" 250 watts) or one servo 15(15" 400 watts). I have two pw2200's and was wondering if I should sell them and by a single servo 15. Anyone got any suggestions

"Slam in the chest" bass response usually occurs in the 50-60hz region. The listening position will probably have as much or more impact on this as the subwoofer.
A good approach to finding this response in your room would be to stack the subwoofers at the listening position, set the crossover to 80hz, then walk and/or crawl around the room with music playing and find a location that gives good "chest-slam", and place the subs there.

BTW, the two PW2200 subs have a larger combined cone surface than a single Servo-15, but likely have a shorter stroke and lower maximum output capability.
The Servo circuit and big amplifier helps keep the Servo-15 well-behaved and accurate at very high sound levels, but I seriously doubt the Servo-15 has more physical impact and slam capability in the midbass than a pair of PW2200's.
The Servo-15's greatest strength is the effortless way it handles very deep bass at high levels.

Thanks I guess I'll stick with the two pw2200's for now.

I believe he means a motion transducer. It is a voice coil or dc servo motor conntected to a weight, and mounts to a structure such as the chair you sit in, vibrating it at the relative frequencies of wished enhancement. It gives the impression of audible bass to the person sitting on that structure. I think aurua used to make these, i have no clue who makes them now. One tradmark name i think was 'BassShakers' or similar.

But the word "transducer" in-and-out of itself does not help in anyway!

He meant tactile transducer. Try looking at the Buttkicker 2 or a Clark Synthesis.. Need a POWERFUL amp to drive them though... I've also heard of people making them from old drivers, but I havn't found any comprehensive plans on how.
you must be clairvoyant then -nt.RUSSIA
