Questions about B&W Nautilus 805pk94132
Dec 10, 2002 12:32 AM
- Does anyone know the market price of these speakers? or any place to look for other than ebay?
- Please recommend an amp to match with them (under$1000)
- Does the stand really affect sound quality?

I would look at Audiogon. I purchased mine brand new for about $2100, but they can be had used for around $1300-$1600, for example (http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?spkrmoni&1043790166). If you're weary about buying used, remember that someone that has bought a speaker like this has probably not bought it to crank to ridiculous levels and has probably taken VERY GOOD care of it.

For an amp, I first tried the Denon AVR-4800, rated at 125 wpc, tested at 137 wpc. The B&Ws sounded GREAT with them, but I thought I'd experiment. I got an Acurus A250 for an amp and used the Denon as a pre-amp and the sound is AMAZING! The Acurus is a 2 channel 250 watt per channel amp that is a steal. You can find it on Audiogon as well for around $500.

I have the Nautilus stands, but I think any stands will do. They look amazing, but if I had to do it again, I don't know if i'd pay that much for them.

midfi above answered your questions, but just to add, I would strongly recommend a separate power amp for 805's. A receiver like the 4800 would drive them, but with such a speaker as N805, it's worthwhile to invest in a separate amp.

I have found Rotel/B&W to mate very well together.

Have fun!
