| Old speakers need new life! | meyer Dec 11, 2002 5:44 AM | | My father has an old set of speakers which will be going to the cottage next year. I blew the tweeters out of them years ago and would like to replace them. The mids also look quite brittle from not being used over the years. Since I am not familar with any DIY brands of drivers and tweeter could somebody please point me in the right direction for a set of tweeters and mids. I don't want to break the bank since I won't be doing any serious listening on these but also don't want to buy junk. |

Try looking at some drivers at partexpress.com, they have a very wide selection. |
| nope | adioster Dec 11, 2002 10:33 AM | | you can't just plug any old driver into any old speaker. the crossover is dependent on many factors like driver sensitivity, vairable impedance, electrical resonance, and as well as the driver's response characteristics. it looks like you are headed for disaster. drivers such as those made my scan speak require a good deal of crossover planning to attenutate for their anomolies. a scan speak driver without the 4-6k spike repressed and without impedance compensation for the bass may not sound like the several hundred dollars you shelled out for it. i suggest heading down to rat shack and buying the cheapest speaker there. that ought to suit you fine. |
