| new setup rear speakers question | agtpunx40 Dec 11, 2002 3:17 PM | | I'm going to be selling off my current speakers and getting a new setup. I'm planning (for the moment) on getting Paradigm studio 20s for mains, best I've heard in my search so far, and the matching center. My question is about the surrounds. I don't have the money for another pair of studio 20s for surrounds. I'm not into 5 channel music, and most of the stuff I listen to (mostly garage, punk, a little rockabily, and some irish music) won't be out on that anyway, so spending that much money on surrounds seems unnecessary. Probably 55/45 music/movies. Anyway, I'm thinking of getting a less expensive (not bad though) pair, maybe paradigm titans, for surrounds. My current setup, JBL Studio, are all the same series, and I'm kinda worried about the surrounds not matching the mains, especially as movies are made for surround sound more and more. Does anyone know how these speakers match up or have any advise?
oh yea, and I'm very happy with my hsu vtf2 so sub won't be a problem, and the speakers don't need to go too low. |
| re: new setup rear speakers question | midfiman Dec 11, 2002 3:25 PM | | My advice is to use a pair of your JBL studios for the rears for now. While matching the rears is important in surround, it's not ANYWHERE near as important as matching the front three.
Why do I say use the JBLs for the rear? I think that you will eventually get the same disease that everyone else here gets as well, "upgraditis". That way, when you have some more cash, you can move the 20s to surround duty and get some 40s or 60 (or perhaps even 100s!) for new fronts when you have more cash in a few years or so. The center is for all of their studio speakers so you're all set there. Trust me, you'll want to upgrade eventually and the studio series from Paradigm just simply sound better and better as you move up the line!
Great choice BTW! |
