DIFFERENCE BETWEEN V1 AND V2Serhat
Dec 11, 2002 3:28 PM
I wonder if there is a big improvement with the new Paradigm Reference Studio 100 V2..I know the weight and size difference..I just wonder the sound difference..I have V1 and wonder if it is worth upgrading to V2..I would especially like to hear from people who have listened to both..thanx..
I'VE BEEN TOLD BY TECHS....audionutz

That the V2's sport a (much needed) improved tweeter, and crossover.
In regards to the Studio 20cone

the versions 1 and 2...sound wise...are pretty close...the newer version is supposedly less "hot" in the treble...but my experience found the difference marginal at best...unless your dealer offers a 100% trade in...as some do..I wouldnt bother...the older V1 versions are still very good for the money...and the hassle and loss in "upgrading" isnt worth it IMHO.>

The V2 has a much improved high frequency response.

My Rating of the:
Studio 100V2 High Frequency 6.5/10
Studio 100V1 High Frequency 4.0/10

If you were to upgrade I would make it a worthwhile upgrade and leave Paradigm behind and move into the high end.

I agree with BKs choices.

But since you have the money you could look at Revel, Linn, possibly JM Labs and Reference 3a as well. http://www.divertech.com/reference.html
I would agree with Rga...if you are contemplating upgradingcone

best to explore all options as opposed to sticking with Paradigm...the V1 vs. V2 is really a lateral move...what is your budget? I know Rga has some options...as do I....

Thank you for all the valuable help you provided..I will probably not change my V1 and instead of changing it ,I will have to wait more and in the future I might go for something better. What about Legacy Focus or VMPS RM40??Did anyone hear them? What if we compare these with Studio 100??

I would also post your question on audioasylum.com

The VMPS has a great deal of supporters as does Legacy. The latter has some detractors too depending on the model. I can't remember which one I heard but it was around 5k(5 years ago). I was not overly thrilled with the ribbon tweeter. Of course it could have just been that one set odf speakers...but then again the dealer stopped carrying the line shortly after.

Still Legacy has a big reputation so again it could have just been the one day I was in and totally coincidental as to the dealer dropping the line.

The main differences are in the cabinet bracing and the crossovers. With the added bracing and an internal enclosure for the midrange driver, the v2 versions weigh noticeably more than their v.1 predecessors. I also know that the crossover frequencies got changed, and I think that the crossover slope on the v.2 versions is steeper. The other change is in the tweeter, which I believe had some reliability issues in the v.1 guise.

Supposedly, a v.3 version is on the way (the Performance and Monitor series got updated earlier this year, it would make sense that the Studio series is next), so if you're in the market, you might want to wait a little bit and see if indeed the v.3 models are coming anytime soon.

The v.2 versions are not really new models in that they've been around now for over two years. I think that the v.1 Studios were made for about two years before they got updated.
A word on Legacy...cone

I have never been too impressed with Legacy...they put way too much emphasis on the external cosmetics of their speakers...they come in 90 different veneer choices...the point being...I would rather have my cash go towards the internal workings of a speaker...say phase correct Meadowlark or Vandersteens...however...they do have a high WAF factor...but you could do alot better for the money...
