My AR9s are not crisp enough or punchy, need help - please !Shezzy Bhai

I have Acoustic Research AR9 as my front speakers in my HT system, with Yamaha RXV-1000 as the AV Reciever & B.I.C America center & rears. All in all it is a very decent system, but some how with time either my listening has improved or I have realized that I am missing something from my fronts. I feel I need more crisp & punchy bass sound.
Please help me, which are more crisp & tight punch speakers.
At higher sound levels my AR9s are very good & its quality is good enough but some how I feel they are not crisp enough & this is bothering me a lot. Would appreciate your help.

Shezzy,

If you are reffering to the "new" AR9's (Hi Res Line) the
reason your bass is not pleasing enough could very well be
that you are underpowering them. A Reciever just does not
cut it with these speakers. Sure the Mid and Tweeter secion
is high sensitivity but the sub's still need a large amp to
get them going.. For example the AR7 (same as the AR9 only
the sub is amped) gets 175 watts per 10" sub and whatever
power you supply pushes the mids and tweeters only.

I run 100 watts to the mids and tweets and 500 watts to both
subs and they are umm... VERY "Punchy" with kick drums..
more like slam you in the chest like you are sitting right
beside the drum.. :)

Also experiment with placement.. they like to be 2' off the
back walls and away from corners..

Thanks Brett for your inputs.
Yes they are Hi Res series.
Are you saying that the 100 W per channel Amp is not enough, then what should I do, what would you recommend.
Thx,
Shezzy.

Shezzy,

From my experiances with my AR9's 100WPC is not enough to
drive the whole speaker well. I ran 100WPC just to the mid
and tweeter sections and ran 500 watts to the subwoofers up
untill last week. I am still running 500 watts to the 10's
but I am now running 20 watts classA from a pair of tube
monoblocks and they sound fantastic.

If it were me I would get a cheaper "pro sound" amp to drive
the sub's. Something from QSC or Crown or maybe even an
AudioSource Amp would fit the bill. The best amp in the
world isn't needed for bass reproduction. I would use the
amp you have now to run the mids and tweeters and use
another amp of at least 200 watts per channel @ 8Ohm to
run the 10's.
