| 4 ohms speakers with Yamaha RX-v800 | FunnyName Apr 10, 2003 1:04 PM | | Hi,
I am looking into the Dynaudio and M&K brands of speakers and I am worried. My receiver(RX-V800) is rated at 4 ohms for fronts but at 6 ohms and over for rears and center speakers.
I have read that dynaudio are hard speakers to drive, will this be an issue with my receiver?
f0rge already gave me an answer on a different thread (thanks again) but i'd like more feed back please!
PS: I have been a long time reader(over two years) and few times poster on this site and I'd like to thank you all to make this a great place to gather info!

So long as you're not trying to drive the speakers up to reference levels, I don't see a problem with using your receiver with Dynaudios, though you're right in that they're known for being difficult to drive. If you're concerned, see if your dealer will let you borrow a set, and then you can see for yourself whether the receiver starts crying uncle at higher volumes. Just make sure that the impedance switch in the back is set to the 4 ohm position.
And you could always hook up an external two-channel amp to power the mains, and use the receiver for the other channels. |
