| buzzing woofer in speakers - help anyone? | defenbacher Apr 10, 2003 3:18 PM | | I just bought some used speakers (Norman Labs Model 82s) from a record store that was going out of business. The woofer on one of them, I just discovered, buzzes on certain sustained bass frequencies. You can only hear it on maybe 5% of the music I play, even when they're bumping.
If I lightly place my finger on the woofer, the buzzing disappears completely. So i put a few strips of masking tape on the woofer to stabilize it, and this made it a little better.
So I don't think it's blown, just the woofer isn't seated correctly or something. I really don't have any idea. Does anyone know a quick fix for something like this? I only paid $30 for the pair, and they are very usable in their current condition, so I'm not going to do anything too drastic.
Thanks,

If the surround is solid then maybe the internal suspension that centers the back of the cone is damaged. Pull the driver & look inside the basket. I assume you inspected the cone for damage....?
Age or rough use could cause a dragging voice coil. |
