| So THAT is how they offer free shipping! | maxximtl Apr 14, 2003 1:41 PM | | I recently ordered a set of JBL S-310's from www.vanns.com . It was a great deal, and they were throwing in free shipping on top of a hefty discount. I noticed when they sent me the tracking Info. that the weights were all wrong. They had each speaker listed at 28 pounds, when it should have been over 50. Initially, I thought they sent the wrong product. After calling vanns, they assured me that the correct product was sent. I had an uneasy feeling even after the phone call, and was curious about what I was going to get when the UPS guy showed up.
Thankfully, they did ship the correct speakers. The UPS guy asked me about the weight on each box (which were about double what was on the label.) I told him where I bought them, and he had mentioned that a lot of these places are running shipping scams on UPS and Fed Ex by falsifying weights to save money on shipping (when they are fronting the bill.)
Anyway, it's just something to think about when you make your next purchace. The consumer isn't liable for the discrepency, but someone is definetly paying the bill on those "Free Shipping" promotions.
Other than the unethical shipping practices of Vanns.com, I have been pleased with every other aspect of the purchace experience. |
