| Quad 11/12L owners | cone Apr 15, 2003 11:22 AM | | Just curious what others are using for power,source,cables,placement,etc...are these the BOMB or what? |
| hey, cone... | dean_martin Apr 15, 2003 2:34 PM | | I'm getting ready to jump up from my entry level Acoustic Energy Aegis Ones and am looking at the Quad 11L and Dynaudio Audience 42. As far as list price goes they are both $699 from what I've seen. What else is in this class? I'm looking for something that can be driven with Acurus A100 ss 100wpc amp and can get by without a sub in a small room.
BTW, besides the What Hi-Fi? recommendation I can't find much on the Quads. |
| At $699...Quad and Dynaudio are about it.... | cone Apr 15, 2003 4:51 PM | | after an exhaustive speaker selection myself...I ended up with the 12L...mainly due to room size...the 11L has a slightly smaller cabinet and driver assembly...at any rate...it is the class leader at its price point and well beyond...with the 42 being a close second...however the Quad offers a little bit more bass extension...and the soundstage and transparency of the L series is world class...good luck...both have immaculate build quality...but the Quad looks a hell of alot better! |
| re: Quad 11/12L owners - Rotel | RickT Apr 15, 2003 7:01 PM | | I have Rotel RA-02 amp and Rotel RCD-02 CD player, Van den Hal interconnects and biwiring for speakers.
Recommendation from What Hi-Fi etc but demoed at retailers who assembled several options at the price level I wanted to pay. Rotel's + Quad's were just so much better to me than other set-ups; although I recognize this is a personal view and someone else will find another set up "better".
Best thing I can say is that the hardware 'disappears' and all you are hearing is the music, all the music with clarity, distinction of instruments and musicality. I have a PSB 5 subwoofer attached to the "B" speaker outputs but only include it for playing DVD's (Marantz DVD player attached to Aux in) when I am looking for ridiculous amounts of earth shaking explosions! Quad 11L's don't need a subwoofer for music - they have ample well controlled bass. |
| RIck.... | cone Apr 15, 2003 7:22 PM | | great set up...I looked at the Rotel because it has a phono section...but got a great deal on a NAD...awesome soundstage with my 12Ls...and a very nuetral, transparent, and dynamic sound...I might re-examine the Rotel if I pick up a TT...but for now the NAD works fine...I also like the REga Brio with phono too...Audiolab 8000 is also a good choice...I have Osiris stands, SOny SACD, and Goertz cabling...sounds good to me... |
