hi,

what would actually be the better center speaker for both HT and music? A full range center that goes down to 40 hz or one that is crossed over at a higher frequency, say 80 hz?

tks

the better one would be the one that matches your main channels...if you match the tweeters and the midrange drivers you should be good

Ideally the center speaker should be the best speaker in your system. It should be full range, capable of 35-40Hz reproduction. But still, they should be crossovered so that lowest octaves are produced only by the subwoofer. Otherwise there will be phase cancellations in the bass. I think the best crossover frequency for such a system would be around 50Hz.
