Thanks for the responses and help from all. I still have another question. What subwoofer is equal to or better than the klipsch rsw12 that is cheaper than $900? It will be primarilly used for home theatre. Thanks
See if you canMash

score a used Paradygm servo-15 or a used Velodyne servo-15. I picked up a 6 year old Velodyne servo-15 for $700. Not a steal, but OK. The Velodyne servo-15 is impossible to beat with anything you will likely find new for $900. There are audio junkies who simply must have the very latest.

Just remember that because you are using it for ht, doesn't mean it should belt out garbage. The subs suggested are good, but for the price I would recommend a new Paradigm pw-2200 for about 799.00, or perhaps a used mirage bps-400,Bang for the buck would have to go to the pw-2200. It belts out good clean bass equal to the bigger more expensive subs, for a fraction of the cost and a warranty! Polk also has psw-650 for 750.00, very close to paradigm in power and
sound. Lots of options out there, make sure you listen
to a few so you can at least hear what you do and do not like. A specialty store is gonna be your best bet for auditioning, although polk is mostly carried by the big chains. Good Luck.

I just gave the prices of NEW subs, but I would take a BRAND NEW paradigm pw-2200 over a used servo-15 any day, you just don't know what you are getting in a used sub, alot of people (younger generation) will put a lot of stress on the subs just to see how loud it will get because they have inferior receivers and speakers then they sell it on e-bay, an average deal on e-bay would be this:
A 50-60 pd. sub woofer that goes new for $1200.00, someone could get it on e-bay for $850.00 then they got to pay at least $80.00-$90.00 for shipping and insurance, now you are up to about $940.00, you might as well save the rest of the money and get it new, because if you get the sub and it messes up you are screwed, because you get no warranty.SAVE UP YOUR MONEY AND GET THE DAMN SUB NEW, AND HAVE A WARRANTY, AND A STORE YOU CAN TAKE IT BACK TO.
Really? I guess you're a mind reader!midfiman

I don't recall him saying anywhere ONLY NEW? Perhaps it's true, but i don't recall him stating that.

<i>"...but I would take a BRAND NEW paradigm pw-2200 over a used servo-15 any day"</i>

The difference is night and day, it's not small.

<i>"alot of people (younger generation) will put a lot of stress on the subs just to see how loud it will get because they have inferior receivers and speakers then they sell it on e-bay..."</i>

There are very few people who are going to have a $1,500 sub coupled with inferior speakers and recievers. Furthermore, there are also very few people who will spend that much on a sub and abuse it.

The difference is night and day to your wallet, but that's it. I auditioned both in my home for quite some time because I could not decide which one to go with. I found the 15 hit a bit harder for ht, but very little. The part that got me was that it sounded worse for music in my setup.
So for 1/2 the price I got the 2200!
Spend more time setting them up correctly, it IS N/D (nt)midfiman

Just keep in mind Skribnod, that we are arguing based on opinions. You may very well like the 15 more than the 2200.
But as long as we are arguing:
In the same room, same setup, exact same place, tested by a professional, these are the numbers:servo-15 40hz-112db
35hz-110db
30hz-110db
25hz-106db
(some mechanicalnoise) 20hz-96db
18hz-90db
pw-2200 40hz-114db
35hz-114db
30hz-114db
25hz-108db
(not clearly) 20hz-96db
In his opinion, the servo-15 slows the tempo of upbeat music a bit, and the 2200 had a little overhang that could be detected. Now, I don't know about you, but besides the fact that the response of the 2200 was not listed @ 18hz, it did pretty well as far as numbers go, and by the sounds of it the sounds were quite similar. Like I said before, the difference between the two was too close to spend all the extra dough. If you have the dough, fine, get a servo-15,you won't be dissappointed. But for under 900 bucks, the new 2200 is the way to go. Just my opinion.
"Skribnod"? What is that? Must be some "hick" thing. (nt)midfiman

If you want a good product, the DIY kits have high quality parts, but low prices. Since I'm pretty much like a third tit when it comes to construction, I had the DIY company assemble the sub for me.

My sub is a 15" Adire Audio Tempest driver in a 21x21x24 enclosure, driven by a 300W RCM Akustic plate amp. The total cost to me shipped was $891 Cdn (about $550-575US).

These guys built, crated and shipped for less than half the cost of a new Paradigm Servo 15. I have compared the 2 units in home, and while the Servo 15 might be slightly better - and I am really stressing slightly, for 40% of the new price the DIY sub absolutely kicks ass.

I can't believe only one other person suggested SVS?!?!?!?!?!?!

The 20-39PC + or the 16-46PC+ are both under a $1000 bucks and will out perform or compete with any of the subs listed above including the Servo-15...and their customer service is second to none.

Check them out for yourself
