| Amp question | ejohnson84 Feb 14, 2001 8:08 PM | | Is it possible for me to setup two difforent amps together to drive one speaker? i have a 300 watt amp and a 100 watt amp that i wana put together to get 400 watts to run my subwoofer(the sub needs 600 though) so i was wondering if i could bridge the two amps together into one amp. thanks for reading this and i hope one of you guys responds |
| Nope | wavephorm Feb 15, 2001 6:44 AM | | On some multi channel amps you can bridge the channels together, this is done internally by the amplifier with electronics involved. You cannot simply take the outputs of 2 amps and put them both on the same speaker - that would cause a short circuit and very likely destroy both amplifiers. Your best option is to use only your 300Watt amp. The other would be to buy a new 2 channel amp that specifically says it can be bridged. |
| Absolutely..... | Trevor Wilson Feb 15, 2001 11:54 AM | | ....NOT!
Doing so, is likely to destroy either, or both amplifiers.
Think of it this way:
What would happen if you connected a small, 9 Volt transistor radio battery, to an auto battery?
A: BANG!
Kinda similar situation with your two amplifiers.

| Absolutely..... | Mitch Apr 25, 2001 2:57 PM | | But isn't there something out there that you can buy to connect to the outputs of the 2 amps, 2 identical amps that is, that would properly bridge them? I think I saw a DIY kit on ESP that did this. There must be something out there on the market? If there is, I'd be interested in getting one. I have an MCA5 and would like to bridge a couple of amps together to feed my Paradigm 100's. Mitch |
