| Opinions Re: ROTEL RB-1090 vs. ADCOM GFA-5802 Amplifiers | N.O.live Feb 27, 2001 5:33 PM | | I have exhaustively researched many amplifiers that I feel would satisfy my audio craving within the $2K price range. I used to own an Adcom GFA-5800 before it was replaced by the now GFA-5802 (300 wpc/8 ohms) model. I am considering going back to Adcom. Presently I own a pair of B&K Reference 4420M (250 wpc/ 8 ohm) amplifiers. I feel that they are great amplifiers for movies, but not so much for music, based on my experiences with them. I need an amplifier(s) for (85% music/15% movies)
Now, ROTEL, I have re-discovered, has an amplifier known as the RB-1090 (380 wpc/8 ohms) with wonderful reviews. I have decided to choose between the ROTEL RB-1090 or the ADCOM GFA-5802. Please give some feedback regarding either of these amplifiers, comparing them or your personal experiences with them.

$2000 you might find bigger gains in changing some other
component along the way. I did notice a change in the sound
when changing amps, but the bigger gain was in my speakers.
2 grand can be a pretty good sum of money down toward a real
good pair of speakers.
What is in your system now? Perhaps you are already satisfied
with your speakers, I don't know.
By the way I have heard the 1090. My friend has one with a pair
of Martin Logan SL3's, Celeste Pre-amp, Rotel 990 CD, a nice
Linn LP-12/Zeta Arm. Sounds very nice.
