| What amp for Dyaudio Audience 60 under 1000$? | Radu Mar 8, 2001 7:19 AM | | I recently purchased a pair of Dynaudio Audience 60 loudspeakers as a major upgrade of my system.
What would be your recommmendation for an amp that would match them in the 500-1000$ range?
My shortlist so far is comprised of Cambridge Audio P-500 preamp and C-500 amp, at 500$ (or the integrated A500)- a decent and not very expensive choice, and Audio Refinement Complete, at around 1200$ - very highly rated by everyone here and not only here, but VERY expensive. I realize these two options sound strange together, but first my goal is to have a very good amp for the speakers (setting price aside for the moment), and second I live in a country (Romania) where options for hifi equipment are very limited.
At present I drive the speakers with a Nakamichi AV-7 receiver and a Nakamichi DVD-10s. I quickly realized that an investment in a good CD-player is an absolute must for music, and I selected Cambridge Audio D300 at 300$ for a future purchase.
The problem is the amp. The AV-7 sounds good enough when compared to Cambridge Audio A500 - not much difference. Also, I have seen some reviews here that say Nakamichi AV-7 and AV-8 are good amps for music, besides their HT capability. If I cannot find an amp that I will like in the given price range, I will buy the CD-player and live with the AV-7 for some time.
(I am thinking about selling the DVD player and eventually the receiver for a good amp and a decent CD-player. I know this means trading a HT system for a stereo system, but I expect some major increases in quality.) |

I was in the same situation when I bought the Dyn 50's. Great little speakers for the money. Depending on which way you want to go, integrated vs. separates, I would look at NAD. I recently listened to the C350 & C370 and I agree with the reviews here; great sound for the $$$. They can be found at soundcity.com for around $329 & $529, but you have to call. I'll probably be going with the C370 since it has more power and I can upgrade my speakers in the future. Separate-wise I would listen to the Odyssey(sp?) Stratos. A little over your budget but the sound is very nice. I'm still trying to decide which pre to use with this piece. Anyway, good luck, happy hunting and listen to your own ears. |

Bullet proof 20 year fully transferable warranty and very good resale value. Use you Nak as pre/pro. Down the road you might audition a passive pre for your music system (Creek OBH-12 for $290.00 and FT-Audio LW-1 for $495.00). BTW, the Bryston works well with passives.
