To Rick Riley: How did you blow those Adcoms?Ace W.

I read one of your posts and you said they started to hum and blew up. What model was it? Was it one of those new Mosfet ones (notorious for overheating below 8 ohms)? I have an Adcom 555II which tested out in the 500w range driving 2 ohms stereo and could keep it up forever. Actually, I think it was nearly twice the power of bridge mode (also the heat sink temp did double though it never shut off or flickered the distortion indicator). I have never heard this amp clip in low impedances (have clipped it before at 8 ohms though). I think this amp is bullet proof to any impedance that any existing speaker could pose in stereo. I did hear that one blew up from the unsaudered connections but I don't know much about it. Just wondering how yours blew? I can't imagine a speaker that could withstand its power below 4 ohms before burning out the voice coils from too much cone excursions. I have seen these push over supposedly strong speakers including a pair of 2 ohm car subs (15" 1" excursion monsters) and Infinity Kappa 9s. Easily got warmth over the fronts of the woofer cones. What else was your experience?
