| cheapest way to get 6.1...HELP!!!!!!!! | funkycold Jul 9, 2001 9:58 AM | | im in the process of upgrading EVERYTHING. dd/dts receivers have dropped significanly in the past two years, but now there are 7.1 channels available. now i know that i cant afford any of the 7.1 receivers, but i just cant get myself to but a 5.1 channel receiver knowing that some of my dvds can decode that one extra rear that i wont have. so what is my best option? i know if i get a receiver with 5.1 preouts i could get a preamp later on that will be able go create a matrixed 6.1 channel using the rear surrounds, but what is the cheapest way a could get that sound now? im interested in both receivers and preamps(for the future). feel free to mention products the do both surround ex and dts-es. thanks a lot guys.

| Outlaw Audio 1050 | KBaker Jul 12, 2001 2:09 AM | | Check out the Outlaw Audio 1050 reciever. It does 6.1 out of the box and is reasonably priced. It is something a little different, not just another 5.1 reciever. They also have a preamp coming out this fall which offers even more features (check the virtual trade show). It is worth checking out. |

They cut out the middle man so they offer you a (supposedly) great 6.1 receiver for $499 on sale right now. It has outs so you can use it as a preamp if you ever decide to upgrade to an amp. My understanding is that 7.1 is basically the same as 6.1 but 7.1 just splits the mono rear center speakers into driving two mono rear speakers. Seems to me you can do the same yourself by having the 6th channels of a 6.1 receiver drive two speakers. Just have to be careful not to damage your equipment with the change in impedance. |
