| SS and Tube In the same system? | EdT Jul 9, 2001 7:46 PM | | I have a Music/ HT system that is currently driven by an AV Receiver. I'm thinking of upgrading to a tube amp for critical 2 channel music listening(ASL Waves or Decware Zen's) and using the receiver as a preamp. I would have two sets of speaker wire running to the front left and right speakers (one from the receiver (for TH "mode") and one from the tube amp. Can I do that?? Will either of those tubes make a difference in sound quality over my SS AV receiver?(A pioneer elite VSX36tx)

Some options you could use.......is to use your external amps all the time....and your receiver as a pre and amp for the center and two rears.....Downside is you will always have to turn the tube amps on....which....once you think about it....aint that bad!
Another possible solution....if you use your audio system all the time for TV. You can hook the tube amps up...coming from the pre-outs...like you should do......but....say your just listening to the news.....and you don't want to power the tube amps up....just select a "listening mode" like normal surround....or something that will feed the full sound of the TV to the center channel.....now....you listen to "normal" TV from only the center....but if your going to watch a movie.....or listen to music....power up the tube amps.
another solution is to go to a speaker selector swtich.....which some others here should be able to help you with.
enjoy the music! |
| Selector switch | Matthew W. Jul 10, 2001 11:56 PM | | Check out the DPS-1 source switch by Niles Audio. It allows you to run one pair of speakers between two seperate amps and can handle 350wpc. Http://www.nilesaudio.com/misc_products/index.html Go to 'switching systems' and take a look at the DPS-1 |
