| HELP! Rotel vs. Parasound? | mikerez Jul 10, 2001 5:43 AM | | Hello All,
I'm looking to get a new poweramp to power a pair of Paradigm Studio 100s. After buying the speakers I don't have too many more funds left to buy a killer amp. After doing some research I've narrowed it down to the Rotel or the Parasound. Both make a good ~200/wpc amp right around $1000. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions. I've had rotel in the past and have been very happy with it... but I've heard good things about parasound as well.
Please Advise. |

the rotel sounded more neutral, like it was reproducing the sound of the recording, bringing no color of it's own to the sound. the parasound sounded a bit darker, or warmer, but it's sound was pleasing as well. sounded very similar to my denon 3300, but with more heft and body to the sound. both exhibited excellent bass sound and control, and the treble was neither harsh nor bright.
neither of the two sounded bad, just a matter of the type of sound you're looking for. they both sounded great with the paradigm studios. the only way to decide is to listen to the two for yourself, and choose whichever one you like better.
the 100's are a great choice, one i hope to have myself someday.until then, i'll make do with my studio 20's. |

It's well built and is a nice match for the Paradigms. Very neutral and lots of control . . . it seemed to have tamed the "bright" tweeter a bit . . . although I didn't think that was much of a problem to start with. For the price, I found it to be a very good amp . . . I'll probably be happy with it until it breaks . . . which I expect to be a very long time away.
Let me know if you need some more details, you are probably looking at the same amp (2x200). |

Have you considered a used Classe CA-100 or CA-101 for $700 to $1000? You can find them all the time on Audiogon.com and I really think the CA-100 is a good value. Good luck! |
