| Help me!! moving to an apartment | new user Jul 12, 2001 8:06 PM | | I'm moving to an apartment in a month. I like to listen to music at louder than what I'll be allowed to in a apartment so I'm going to but a pair of sony mdr-v900 headphones(I listen to mostly rock music and just about anything else besides classical ,so if anyone has a suggestion for a different pair of headphones in same price range please tell me) and I can't afford to buy a dedicated headphone amp. I've blown a few pairs before using my cd player and portable cd player so I don't want to use a generic headphone plug to power them.
I want to use my pre-amp to run them and am not sure if it's a good idea or not. I'm confused as to how the impedance will affect it. I would think that a pre-amp as power source should be higher quality signal than using my cd player's headphone jack. so if anyone knows what kind of specs would make a pre-amp suitable to run headphones would be appreciated

and check out this site: http://www.headphone.com and read their reviews. I have Grado SR80s and they are awesome.
also check this thread at arstechnica where someone is explaining how to build a headphone amp. you have to check the second page for his website where he has good instructions in process (the site is not finished yet but will be soon). This guy really knows his stuff.

also check http://www.headwize.com for headphone amp building. You have to search around, but it IS there somewhere. They have complete instructions and parts lists that you can get mainly at RadioShack.
hope that helps. |
