Help me choose between NAD and Audio Analogue Pucciniafg
Jul 13, 2001 8:51 PM
I currently own a NAD 317 and am thinking of upgrading it. I am looking at two amps i.e NAD350 and Audio Analogue Puccini. I have not yet heard the former but have heard that it is value for money. I have breifly heard the Puccini but I will require a more detailed hearing. I want some advice from you'll as to how do these amplifiers stack against each other and againts its competition in this price range. Your comments will be highly appreciated.

Afg, I think those are both decent Amps. However, I feel they're a little too refined for my taste. In other words, you might find that there sound is a little sterile and the highs could be a bit rolled off. You might want to read the thread below on the Roksan Kandy which is another fine, value British amp that has a dynamic sound and puts out a LOT more power than the two you mentioned. In addition, it's exterior is beautiful unlike the NAD, but I guess that is all subjective. I also like the Arcam85 but this does run a pretty penny, thanks.

It must lack something or you wouldn't be thinking of "upgrading" it.

Nothing majorly wrong with the NAD317. Only that on the Puccini, there was less electronic glare. The piano and voices sounded more natural, which I liked. It was also more smooth. The bass however, was weak. But I don't mind that as I generally do'nt listed to a lot of rock/pop.It is more of instrumental stuff.

In fact, I'm having a tough time imagining it. I'll settle for, "I'm sure I can tell the difference between the Puccini and my existing amplifier without peeking, and the difference favors the Puccini."

If that's the truth, go ahead and buy the Puccini. I would not advise risking a substitute.

What I meant was instruments like the Piano were souding a bit electronic compared to the AA. That's all. Thanks for your advice anyway.
