| What's the best way to connect a DVD to a good receiver? | Antonio Castro Dec 27, 2001 12:35 PM | | HI
I have a dvd player with built in DTS and Dolby Digital Decoders.
Ive just bought a Technics DX950 Receiver, and it also includes these decoders.
I connected the DVD to the receiver using RCA cables (5.1 CH, Surround). This means that the receiver will get decoded signals, and it wont use its internal decoder.
My question is: should I use this setup and keep the analog cables, or should I use an optical cable and let the receiver do the decoding?
My receiver is a lot better than my DVD player. Im wondering if the receivers decoder performs better than the one included in the DVD player.
Also, Im using the cables included in the DVD. This means that they are plain and simple analog cables. Should I buy a reasonable optical cable, with gold connecters? Or should I keep the thing as it is, and save myself the money.
Finally, why should I connect the video signal from the DVD to the receiver?
The receiver has a video input, but I have no idea why it is needed.
Thanks in advance for any help. |

For the connection, you can use a decent quality coax or digital cable. The coax is a sturdier cable and may also have a lower cost. Either should result in very similar performance.
I would suggest running the video cables directly into the TV. No reason in my view to introduce an extra step & additional cable to the signal path.
