How often should tubes be changed on tube amplifiers, and preamps?

It depends on the tube type, and hours of use. I think if you power
the things up frequently, they die sooner. You can either not worry
about it until the sound quality goes south, or worry and get your
hands on a tube tester. I was lucky enough to find one at an estate
sale, tested all my tubes, and they were fine. Most should last a
good long while.
