Krell/Dynaudios-helpafg

I upgraded my system by buying a second hand Krell KAV300i and and a new pair of Dynaudios Audience 82s. When I heard the set up the show room, the sound was incredible. Pianos had weight to them and the top end was smooth. However, when I brought the system home the sound was good but the instruments had less weight to them in the sense they sounded a bit thinner. The top end was also a bit harder.

I have tried the system with the same Marantz CD player which I heard at the showroom. Is it that the speakers are not completely run-in (the demo speakers at the showroom were already run-in.) Is it the interconnects? If so what are the best interconnects for this (I tried the Kimber 4PR)? Or is it the room (around 25ft x 15Ft).

I will really appreciate your help on this.

Thanks

When all other factors (source, amp, speakers) are the same, I would suggest that it is the room or the speaker positioning. I would look into room treatments if you don't have them yet, or moving the speaks around a bit. They are on one of the short walls, right? They probably should be. Perhaps this software could help you smooth things out:

Everything you mention could be playing a role in [your] system. The first thing I would recommend is letting the speakers break in. I have found that Dyns take quite a while to open up and exibit all the situations you mentioned during this process.
Give them a couple of weeks of playing time before making and judgements. I promise you, if this speakers are fresh with less than 50 hours on them, they WILL open up.
Keep us posted on your findings.

Congradulations, Krell & Dynaudio are a killer combo. I would suggest putting your CD player on
repeat & playing a dynamic CD with plenty of bass program for several hours. Maybe a couple days while at work. If you won't disturb anyone, set the volume slightly louder than normal listening, but don't blast it, if you decide to do this. Because Dyn's out of the box & for many hours will not perform at their potential. It took weeks for my Contour 2.5t's. I use Transparent cables. They work great with Krell & Dyn, but that is something you can play with, the various brands. If you enjoyed the weight of instruments, in the future snag a Krell CD player & use the balanced inputs. Relax, it will come around, I have felt your anxiety. Transparent has a website - Transparentcable.com
This burn in period is something Dynaudio should address in their owners manual.

break in your speakers.

i have the kav-300r (same as your krell, but with a tuner) and dynaudio contour 1.3se's. Took me about a week of non-stop music playing to get some decent music out of the speakers. They sounded very thin out of the box. Absolutely aweful.

Face the speakers together, about two inches apart. Find some bass-heavy dance music and let the everything run non-stop for about a week.
