Reciever power transformer size question..Keith
Aug 19, 2002 3:55 PM
Does the physical size of the transformer have anything to do with things like current, low impeadence capability or things like that?I meen i'm looking at two recievers from different companys at the same price and one has a slightly bigger transformer than the other, should i put much bearing on this? And one other thing the amp with the smaller transformer has bigger storage capacitors and the one with the bigger transformer has smaller storage capacitors.Does any of this matter.Any help would be much appreciated.Thanks.PEACE.

Large capacitors will let a weak power supply to hold its breath just a bit longer. So an amp with small transformer and large capacitors will have good music power performance but worse continuous power capacity.

All other parameters being equal, I would prefer the amp with the bigger transformer and smaller capacitor.
