| Recommend me a smooth-sounded amplifier. | Sohn Aug 19, 2002 6:43 PM | | Could you recommend me some integrated amplifiers satisfied with below conditions?
<Necessities>
A. Solid state integrated amplifier
B. Soft and Smooth
C. Grainless
(For example, NAD S300 is smooth but grain-sounded.)
D. Rich bass-midrange
(No matter its tightness. For example, Audiolab8000A is smooth but the bass is relatively thin.)
<If possible>
A. Cheap (less than $100)
B. Pre-out
In my information, Jeff Concentra would be satisfied almost all above conditions, but too expensive.
Thank you for helping me in advance. |
| Did you mean less than $1000? | Soundman Aug 19, 2002 7:01 PM | | I am not sure of the pricing for your post. |

$100 -> 1,000 |
|  re: To correct mistyped figure, $100 -> 1,000 | RGA Aug 19, 2002 10:57 PM | | Creek 4330mk2 http://www.creekaudio.co.uk/products/4330mk2.asp Around the middle of your price range.
You could also look at the Arcam A65 and 75 http://www.arcam.co.uk/diva/hifi/a65.html The sound is not as smooth as the Creek, perhaps, but it is well balanced providing solid dynamics and does not screech in the highs. |

I promise you, you will never find a grainless, soft and smooth ss amp for less than a thousand, no matter what anyone tells you. Especially if you are looking for a rich bass, midband. That is tube country. I urge you to try a 60 or 80 watt integrated tube amp, such as Jolida makes. Your pre amp is just as important to your goal and the Jolida integrates fill both bills. I use to run a Jolida 1000 on four ohm Apogee Stage speakers. The sound was so fantastic, I made converts of several die hard ss fans. I've moved up to even bigger ribbon speakers and have had to turn to Pass Labs for the kind of solid state you are talking about, and that's several times over your budget. |
| Well | RGA Aug 20, 2002 7:45 PM | | true but why not buy a dedicated Tube preamp and use a SS power amp. The Jolida Hybrid is an option but Jolida has build issues.
Try an Antique Sound Labs AQ2004 Pre amp $299.00US and you get 5 years on the warranty instead of the 1 that Jolida offers. Then buy a used power amp from Rotel or Bryston(either is better than the SS section of a Jolida Hybrid). |

| re: Recommend me a smooth-sounded amplifier. | muralman1 Aug 20, 2002 8:21 PM | | Classe, for a thousand? I recently sold my overflow of electronics. I tested them all before boxing. Bryston and B&K never sounded so bad. I was really torn between selling my Jolida 1000 and replacing it with a Pass X-150 solid state. I wouldn't have, if it hadn't been for the heart felt advice of an amateur amp builder friend. The Jolida was that good. A great pre amp will not cure the grain of the average solid state amp. A Krell owner found that out when I brought over the Jolida for a listen. His Krell is for sale now and he has replaced it with a pricey Llano Trinity tube hybrid. We are talking about a $1000 cap for both pre amp and amp. The Jolida TUBE integrated amp (not a hybrid) is a bargain for $500 to $600. |

|  My loudspeankers are AE-1 and JBL4312B. | Sohn Aug 21, 2002 3:59 PM | | My loudspeankers are AE-1 and JBL4312B.
In case of AE-1, I heard Premere 301 is a kind of best matched amplifier. Is there any well-matched amp cheaper than that? |
| My loudspeankers are AE-1 and JBL4312B. | Paul L Aug 22, 2002 6:19 PM | | The 4312 can be driven by tube easily but not the AE-1. You choice of the Jeff Rowland and Premere are logical one. If you are in North America, drop me a line about the Classe' which is a good match as I said above.
