mono or stereo amplifiersmanus2eire

I have a 6.1 channel home theatre receiver but the 6th channel (rear center) only has a pre-amp output, therefore I need an amplifier to drive the speaker. I am looking for mono amp but not finding much for the output I want (~100 watts). I wouldn't mind another stereo amp to drive some remote speakers but I would only have the one speaker on the other set of outputs. Any advice?

You can get a poweramp that is bridgeable.

this is only loosely related to this thread, so please bare with me. i was looking at the foreplay preamp, which has "dual mono" volume controls. i understand the obvious meaning, but do i need an amp with any special features to be compatible? further, could someone explain the difference between a stereo amp and a dual mono amp? it seems to me that the net effect would be the same, but by completely separating the channels, better sound could be achieved. am i correct in this assessment, or going completely down the wrong path (which i often do, incidentally)?

A true dual mono design is two mono blocks putting in one box. Dual volume control means the left and right channel control by two mono volume pot. They are different. You can use a dual mono preamp with stereo power amp or vice versa.
