| Can you use a 2 ch Amp along with an Integrated DD/DTS Amp? | traut Aug 23, 2002 6:20 AM | | Is it possible to run a 2 ch standalone Amp w/ an Integrated DD/DTS Processer/Amplifier?
I'm thinking about buying a nice midfi stereo amp to power my B&W 604's for music listening. Can I run an integrated amp through it so that I can use the standalone to power the mains while watching dvd's in surround?
Would this have any positive or negative affects on movies?
Thanks for any advice,

The effect will be positive all around as long as the 2ch amp is superior to your integrateds. (as a GENERAL rule they usually are) The l/r channels are mostly used for effects in the surround formats. If you use phantom than you should notice a considerable difference.(I am not saying to ditch the center channel, just if) With movies the performance increase will be limited. The real benefit will be with music. You have a nice pair of speakers and a good amp should make a substantial improvment. It might not slap you in the face, but if you critically listen than I am willing to bet you will be very happy.
What equipment do you have/ are considering?
good luck

I'm currently using an old Technics DD/DTS 5.1 receiver, which I plan on upgrading some time down the road, probably to a Yamaha or Marantz.
I'm thinking about getting a solid 2 Ch Power Amp, like a Rotel or an Anthem. Any opinions on those? |

Anthem and Rotels are both great choices. How much are you planning to spend? New or used?
