| re: Jolida and the movies | RGA Aug 26, 2002 9:30 PM | | No. Jolida's are not surround sound amps. They are two channel amplifiers.
Tubes generally are better suited for music over H/T. Does not stop you from buying a receiver for H/T and Jolida for music... |
| On the contrary..... | Response Aug 29, 2002 7:31 AM | | We have helped many people set up tube based home theater systems.
Actually there are many poeple using Jolida amps, both ALL TUBE and the Hybrids for home theater. In fact, Jolida has a few Hybrids designed for home theater with a 3 channel to complement the two channel versions.
Another way to go about it is using one of the tube amps for front and the 3 or 4 channel for the center, rears and sub. This setup would also allow you to use the tube amp for your two cahnnel music listening.
There is also a large number of people using multiple tube amps for all the channels. The possibilities are endless and limited only by one's imagination and of course budget.
Good luck and happy listening.

| On the contrary..... | RGA Sep 1, 2002 8:20 PM | | Yes it can be done...one could even buy 5 Antique Sound Labs Wave 8 monooblocks all for < $500.00.
But, Tubes typically have rolled off highs and limited power. The tube euphoria is not that great at wall rattling dynamics from explosions etc...and if you buy the non euphoria tube amps what's the point in going tubes at all?
I'm no fan of receivers for music but many offer a lot in the H/T department. If I had say $2000.00 on amplification I'd rather buy a $1500.00 ALL Tube integrated amp from Antique Sound Labs and a say a receiver from Marantz or Denon or Yamaha. Going all tubes means you have to by the hybrids(not an all tube sound) and a processor etc etc. I feel the H/T is limited and the 2 channel is compromised.
On the other hand your option is more expandable for future upgrades. |
| Like I mentioned.....endless possibilities | Response Sep 4, 2002 3:37 PM | | It boils down to what flavor you prefer. Some don't want the "extended" highs associated with SS gear. As far as the explosions for home theater, the subwoofer would handle that department.
You are only comprimising if you "settle" on something that you are not 100% satisfied with. There are obviously many die-hard Hybrid fans as well as SS integrated, receiver and all tube system fans. I say build your system for yourself, not the critics.
I agree with everything you said and these are only some of the possibilities.
Happy listening. |
