| Krell fails me, big time | bryanpoirier Sep 4, 2002 4:00 AM | | I recently purchased a Krell model KAV 300iL.The right channel has failed 8 times within the first 50 hours.
When I play it loud the unit gets too hot to touch.
The dealer says I am the only one that has problems with the Krell. Is there anyone out there that can help prove that I am not the only one? I'm trying to get the dealer to return it. |

Is the unit being repaired or just being sent back to you????? I would ask for a brand new unit if you havn't already. If you've received a new unit, I can bet that their is something else wrong!! Please tell me that you DON'T have XLR AND RCA cables hooked up at the same time!!!!
As far as being hot, Krell does run very hot . . .well at least mine does. Then again, my speakers are 6 ohm and not the most efficient.
Best of luck!!

| re: Krell fails me, big time | skeptic Sep 8, 2002 6:00 PM | | Sorry I can't agree with FLZapped. It sounds to me like something is very wrong with your amplifier and that the technician who is repairing it is fixing the result of the problem, not the cause. Any amplifier and certainly one of the cost of a Krell should have many protective circuits built in including over current protection of the output transisitors, thermal cutouts, etc. Next time it is repaired, connect the left amplifer input and output to the right channel preamp and speaker and visa versa. If the right channel of the Krell burns out again, the problem is in the amplifier. If the left channel burns out, the problem is with the load (shorted speaker wires, etc.) |
