Big question for anyone that can repair electronics/amps....Night Wolf

Hello, I bought a vintage Kenwood KR-8010 receiver (1979) and it came today, I was aware of the problems when I bought it, (although didn't think some would be this bad) but it is in great cosmetic condition, and was very cheap.

there is a mechanical linkage that goes from the function switch to 2 different locations within the receiver, now this is a physical linkage (means the cable moves, no IC's) 1 location is a slider type thing on the main board, and when i move it freehand, it changes the function light (AM/FM/Phono1/2/AUX) the other slider, changes the actual input (AM/FM/Phono1/2/AUX) now the linkage is trashed, some guy that didn't know what he was doing glued different parts of it, and bent it up, big mess so I will see if I can get a replacement. BUT both sliders can be moved by hand, the light slider works, I move it, and the different lights light up. But the function slider doesn't work. when it arrived, there were no jumpers between the pre-out and power-in, so I used a space interconnect to jump them.

Before I plugged it in, I took the cover off, used my contact cleaner and cleaned all the knobs and switches (or at least I thought) and my RCA jack cleaner, and cleaned all the RCA jacks. As well as check the fuses, and using my dust remover to get the dust out of it.

After no luck of getting the pre-amp part to work, I plugged my CD player into the power-in jacks (though variable output on the CDP, I can control the volume with the CDP) and it ran great, the power amp section checks out fine, no noises or anything, and the amp is powerful (rated at 125wpc RMS.)

I then cleaned the face, glass and knobs, and put everything back together.

So the problem is why isn't the pre-amp working, i plug the CD player in aux, and no sound, i plugged it into tape A and only a slight sound (like when your listening to a CD, then hit tape monitor and turn the volume up) i tried tape B and same thing, so then i tried the FM, i hooked some wire up as a crappy antenna, and it picks up stations, as the signal and tuning meters work, but i don't hear anything, and after multiple times of spraying contact cleaner in all the knobs, the volume, tone defeat, hi and low filter switches are still scratchy, and when turned all the way down, when i hit either tone defeat or low filter switch, it makes the woofer "pop" very loud, and move in and out a lot, same with the volume knob (although not as loud, but makes the woofer move a lot) that leads me to believe that there *might* be a short or grounding problem, but i am no expert. now after it makes the loud noise after pressing low filter, it will go in protect mode, which is just a circuit breaker that stops any and all signal/voulme for a few seconds

I can take pictures of the receiver if that would help you understand what's going on. Please let me know anything about this, Thank You
