I have 2 speakers of peerless model lord-12 and a very old onkyo reciever which make me lots of problems and i have to hit him from time to time till im hearing everything good again.... :)
I want to buy a new receiver but im really not sure about a couple of things...
1. the system is meant only for music hearing and not to be used for home theater, shall i buy a stereo reciever and not a 5 channels one? is there any diffrence in quality for the purpose of music hearing? (beside the cost diffrence)
2. which important features do i need to look for at the reciever? (like pro logic...)
3. which companies shall i try to get? (denon, kenwood, parasound, and whatever...)
I'll just mention that i'm really having a limited amount of money and i don't need the best of the best (hey i got peerless :P [by the way i heard from some "experts" that peerless speakers sux... is that right? because for me and all of the rest that heard them at my place they were very nice]).

THANKS ALOT in advance!

1. Definitely buy a stereo receiver. You don't need, and you don't want all those extra stuff. Besides the cost, all the extra circuits and switches are only going to hurt the sound quality.

2. You don't want Pro Logic, you don't want anything. Basically the fewer feature the better. If you use a turntable, research about the quality (and presence) of a phono stage.

3. Tell us your budget.

You need to go to an audio store, and listen to various options for yourself. Some people love surround processing for music, others hate it. The only way to know which category you will fall into will be by listening to a variety of different possibilities. And there are many possibilities for surround sound with music: First, there is special processing for two channel recordings (e.g., Dolby Pro Logic II, etc.). Second, there are various discrete surround formats for music: DD and DTS (both on ordinary DVDs that are music videos; DTS also on some special CDs), DVD-Audio, and SACD (these are in no particular order).

As for Peerless, they make many drivers (individual woofers, tweeters, mid ranges, etc.) for many other companies. They are a respected company. But there are always people who do not like something, no matter what it is. If you like the sound of a particular speaker, after comparing it with many others at its price point, buy it, and don't worry about what others think. No matter what you buy, someone will think you made the wrong choice.

It is a fact that people in the audio world will always have a better idea of how you should spend your money. On this site you'll find people with more knowledge than any normal person should ever have about audio equipment, and nothing you buy will satisfy everyone's tastes. Before reading the posts on this site I've never heard anyone bash products from companies like Krell, B&W, Accuphase, etc. I thought these were the best, and they still sound that way to me, so whenever I need stereo equipment these are the companies I look to no matter what people say. I do agree however that you should get a 2 channel electronics setup if all you're going to use it for is music. Just listen to different products and decide what you like. Most music listeners will latch on to a brand that really blows them away when they first start seriously listening to audio equipment. Such is the case with me, being that when I first started listening to audio I was just spellbound by a Krell front end pushing Martin Logan ReQuests. I'd never heard anything so perfect sounding and now they're companies I swear by. Once you go listen to some products at a decent audio shop, decide what sounds good to you and get it.
