Rotel vs B&K vs MarantzRelman
Sep 7, 2002 1:29 PM
I am looking to upgrade from my Marantz SR7000 receiver to separates. I am first looking to purchase an amp. I need a five channel so I can use it for both music and HT. I currently have the Sonus Faber speaker line with Rel as my sub. I want an amp that will mate well with my speakers. The caracteristics that I am looking for in an amp is a warm sounding, rich, musical, well detailed and acurate. I do not want an amp that is harsh, bright, thin or in your face.
I was considering the Rotel 1095, the B&K 7250 or the Marantz MM9000. Does any of these amps fit the caracteristics that I am looking for? Is there any I should avoid? Thanks for your help.

Pete

Not a fan of Marantz amps.
Have not heard B&K for many years so I can't comment.
Rotel is solid and sounds good for the money...especially in H/T. The 1095 is a very popular amplifier. It's a true tank of a power amp...very powerful, very clean.

It's probably the best thing Rotel Makes.

I have 2 B&K amps and auditioned Rotel Amps before settling for B&K!I like Rotel, but I felt the B&K was the better one to go with!I would go with seperates as there are many advantages.
The downside is it's more costly. The upside is that you have the capability to change things out when you want and Isolation of components.
I have a B&K ST-202 Modified that is really sweet! There are better amps out there ,but not for the $$.Then I have a B&K2500 5-Channel Amp for the surrounds which I holding on to for the moment as I have not settled on an outboard processor as yet!

It sounds that you have your speaker's which was the correct thing to go with before chooseing amps and I would sudition the amps with your speaker's if that is possible before making a decision!

There are other amps that you might find that are morre suitable for what your trying to do.

My aim is to get the best 2 channel playback with out having to comprimise it for Surround Sound. If you are more intrested in SS then you might want to go about it differently, but it still is my contension that having seperates are the better road to take than getting an reciever, especially one made in the Fareast. If you want a reciever get the B&K Reciever. It's probably the best on the market!
If you go seperated!Get the Rotel Pre-Amp and B&K Amps! That is the way I would go if I could!I still might seeing that I like Rotel AC-3 Pre-Amp and their's is the best at this time for the $$ $1500USD.

Good LucK!
I go with Rotel or B&K........never with Marantz.dvjorge

Hello,
Iam not write well in English. I know that Marantz was a good brand in amplifier years ago but today no.They have excellent cd players and dvd . One of the best tuners in the world like to Mc Intosh.I have read bad opinions about Marantz amplifier in these years.Bad quality sound and other problems. I prefer Rotel and B&K over the Marantz in amplifier and receiver.

I have used both of those brand name. Marantz SR-18EX drived my Beethoven and Rel Q201E Sub. Than switched from Marantz SR-18EX to B&K 307. The B&K 307 didn't make much different compare to Marantz SR-18EX, the only different that B&K 307 offered is 7.1 and 150 watts instead of 140watts in SR-18EX. In my opinion I would prefer SR-18EX over B&K 307. However, now I just upgraded to seperat. My current is B&K Reference-30 preamp and B&K Reference 7270 Series II poweramp, man the sound is so much different and my Vienna Beethoven, Maestro, Hydn and Rel-Q201E are really aswome sound, very very happy with these amps now.
