At my work we have 16 different speakers bose, scott, and an andetermined brand. I think they are all 8 ohms. I would like some advice on what type of amp and power rateing to use to power all 16 speakers. I would also like to know the best whay of wiring these speakers to the amp. I know a little about ohm ratings and how to wire speakers together to atain a certain ohm but any advice would be apriciated

Theoretically, if you wire two 8 ohm speakers in parallel, you would have 4 ohms.
If you wire them in series, you'd have something like 16 ohms.
Be aware that speaker's impedance varies considerably with frequency; the rating is just an average.

The safest way would be to connect all of the speakers to a multizone switch, and connect the switch to a high current power amplifier, such as a Bryston or Adcom.
(in any event, you need an amplifier that is stable into 1 or 2 ohms to be safe)

You didn't mention how these speakers are to be used. If 2 channel listening in different areas, I agree, the most practical way would be to use a speaker switcher designed to handle that many pairs of speakers. If the speakers are just scattered around a business for backround music, I would also suggest looking at amps like Shure or Bogen that have 70 volt outputs & can handle dozens of speakers. That's what they are designed to do. These types of amps are used in applications such as schools, stores, sports fields or anywhere you need to run a multitude of speakers.
