Preamp suggestions for NHT 3.3...flup
Oct 10, 2003 10:36 AM
hi there!
i am considering purchasing a good (tube?) preamp for my NHT 3.3. My present Classe surround pre/pro is somehow too bland, dark and grainy (especially with louder, complex music). Looking for more dynamics, openess and a more palpable presence.
Source is California Audio Labs CL2500, power amp for the time being Classe CAV 150, cables Audioquest Gibraltar and Anaconda. Tks for looking and hopefully some suggestions.

Which Classe' pre/pro you are using and how you connect the source to the pre/pro. Do you use analogue or digital?

Hi Paul,
Its the Classe SSP 25.
The California (for music)is only used via analogue connections. In this case it would be the Classe´s DAC at work...?
Tks.

The Classe's SSP25 is one of the better pre/pro when playing music. If you are using the analogue connection, you are not using the Classe' DAC. Try to use digital connection. If I remember it correctly, it can decode HDCD too. Compare which DAC you like better before spending money on new preamp.

I´ll give it a try. Tks! (nt)flup
