| Power Conditioner | rshad Oct 18, 2003 8:10 AM | | I'm not sure what to do. I just bought an Oneac 1000 watt power conditioner for my home theater system and my my Rotel manual says to plug my RMB1075 directly into the wall. It does not say anything about a power conditioner.
Would I be bettery off plugging the amp into the power conditioner or should I just stick with pluging my Pre Amp, TV, and DVD in to it?
The RMB1075 can draw up to 800 watts, while the preamp draws up to 60 watts. I am not sure what the TV and DVD draw. |

On the face of it, the power amplifier in combination with the other equipment you listed would overload the power conditioner because it would exceed its 1000 watt rating. However, the truth about you amplifier is that it has a low idling current and will only draw 800 watts when both channels are delivering full power for a sustained period. If your power conditioner has a fuse or circuit breaker to protect it, it may occasionally trip. This incident would most likely occur when the power amp is alrady on and you turn on the tv set drawing a lot of inrush current, the tv set is on and you turn on the power amp and it draws large inrush current, or there is a momentary voltage dip and both units are on and both draw large inrush currents. If you want to be on the safe side, connect the amplifier directly to the wall outlet and not into the power conditioner. If you are concerned about a voltage spike damaging you amplifier, get a plug in mov spike protector for it from Radio Shack, about $9 or use it with a power outlet strip that already has one. It is my experience that most inexpensive power conditioners don't solve most of the common power problems anyway. Excellent ones are rather expensive and are often combined with or replaced by UPSs. |
