Suggest a Pre-ampRJdio
Oct 22, 2003 5:52 AM
Im using 2 Rotel RB971 power amps, RCD991 and Monitor Audio Gold 20 Speakers. Currently am using Rotel RC972 pre, but looking to upgrade. Listen from Diana Krall to Metallica. So the pre needs to be quite versatile.

Thanks for your time.

I have heard Rotel's preamps were their weakness. I don't know of anything that would be "ideal". There are several good brands to choose from. Just move up the latter rather than a lateral move. Preamps like Adcom or Parasound I do not think will improve your system much. Look for brands like Arcam, Classe, Linn, or maybe consider the used market and look for Krell, MacIntosh, Proceed. www.spearitsound.com look under their used/demo link, they usually have a variety of high end gear. They even have some tube stuff from Conrad Johnson or Cary.

Good hunting!
