| Help on B&W CDM1nt: I know you will be very disappointed | Prefuse Oct 23, 2003 11:30 PM | | Okay so here's my dilemna. A friend of mine is selling his CDM1nt's for a pretty friendly price. As great a deal as I am getting, I fear that I will be giving these speakers a huge insult by powering them through my meager, mid-fi, NAD 340 amp and NAD 520 CD player. I know I have entered the realm of diminishing returns, but will this setup sound any good at all? (I currently have a better suited DM303 budget speaker connected to it) |
| One way to find out | F1 Oct 24, 2003 12:05 AM | | I'm sure your friend will let you borrow the speakers for a trial. Connect them to your system and decide yourself whether the sound improvement can justify the cost. I believe that lower end electronics still draw benefit from higher end speaker. Good luck. |

The only thing you can do is borrow the speakers (it's not like they're tough to carry) and run them in your system. If they sound good, keep 'em. If not, look for something that will be a little more tolerant of the front end.
As I mentioned, if you are planning to upgrade at sometime in the future, even years from now, I would rather have the speakers that can take full advantage of the new equipment than to upgrade speakers AND front end later. The 1NT's love current and will go surprisingly low with a good amp. At $600/pair, they can't be beat IMO. |

As it is the CDM 1NT is not a super tough speaker to drive for a reasonably well made amp. I used a 50 watt per channel Audio Refinement "Complete" integrated and I have used a 30Watt Antique Sound Labs AQ1003DT integrated with good results. Also used a Denon 3803 Receiver with high watt figures that sounded like crap. But then Receivers receive everything but good sound. |

I do wish it were that easy (to just audition them for a bit), but I go to school in Berkley and my friend lives in San Diego. I do recall auditioning them with the NAD silver series and the sound was very impressive. However, this doesn't tell me much about my particular setup. In any case, I am very close to getting them from Modesto as Topspeed recommended. |
| Modesto Out? | Mike in Denver Oct 24, 2003 3:38 PM | | B&W discontinued this line. I can't find them anywhere. I checked with the Modesto carrier and they were out as well. Mike in Denver |
| Modesto Out? | Prefuse Oct 24, 2003 4:30 PM | | I contacted them as well. While they do not have any at their store, they said they could order it. It would cost around 1100.00 shipped. |
