Question regarding using a true AMP and a receiver togetherScottNC

I currently have a AV receiver made by philips which isn't exactly what I want for audio. I also have a NAD C521i CD player. I am thinking about getting the NAD C320BEE for a true integrated. However, I also want to use the setup for home theater use sometimes.

My question is this:
I am also in need of a good DVD player. The philips DVD763SA is a DVD player and also a SACD player. It has integrated DTS/dolby digital decoders onboard, AND it has 6 channel analog outputs.

Can I run the fronts from the philips dvd player straight to the C320BEE amp, and then run the other channels straight through the receiver for the surround portion?
I am concerned about possibly burning out the receiver since I wont have any front channels connected to it, only the 2 surrounds, center, and sub. I cannot change the front speaker settings on the receiver, so I guess it will always be sending power to the front channels. If the fronts are going through my C320BEE, and the other 4 channels going through my receiver, will I kill the receiver?

This way, I can just listen to music on the NAD equipment when I want, but will also have surround when I want. And the philips will play SACD if that format takes off.

Any of you amp pros know if its safe to do this? I don't want to kill the receiver, but I also dont want to spend a fortune on a nice A/V integrated from a good maker.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I am still new to audio, so have patience, and if I am making some huge mistakes let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Do NOT hook up any amp directly to your DVD outputs. I'm not familiar with your NAD but if it's a power amp, there's no way to control the volume and you will get full throddle out of the amp, whoooo! If it's an integrated, you can control the volum, but you would have to adjust it every single time you move the receivers volume, PIA! Hook your DVD up to your receiver like you are supposed to, then use your preamp outputs to the main to a power amp. That is a very popular configuration. You are SOL if you don't have preouts on your receiver, it's upgrade time. If you had about $1k the Arcam AV receiver is the best of both worlds, it sounds very good in 2 channel as well as giving you all the HT options. If you do have preouts, you want to find a power amp not an integrated. What you will be doing is bypassing the internal receivers power amp section to the mains and using the outboard power amp you select to drive them.
