Things sound a bit.. well i guess "High?" Any Advice?landshark99

Hey guys.. I recently bought a used (less then 5 hours) ROTEL RMB-1075 and have hooked it up in my HT/Music system, which consists of a Pair of Paradigms v2 100's and a STR-DA50ES Sony receiver. I have a question regarding the sound that I now have with the AMP hooked up, things are sounding a bit on the "tinny" or high side.. is this caused by the amp and if so will it get a bit warmer and not so metallic? It had a bit warmer sound coming straight from the amp... (this is all concerning just music 2 channel not HT) i have messed with the settings on the reciever turning the trebile db down on the fronts to -1db and playing with the treb freq. But they still sound a bit high.

Will this elevate itsself over time and AMP burn in? IS speaker placement a issue? Maybe there is something else that might be handicapping me? maybe my wires? Any help woudl be appreciated, i can live with it, but if it can be better then I would like to make it so... on an off note the room size is prob about 25 x 18 or there abouts... its more long then deep...

thanks in advance!

IMO it is not likely to change with time. People talk a lot about speaker break in, wire break in, amplifier break in. Many of us believe that we are really just getting used to them.

Turn the treble back further than -1 db. Many high quality amplifiers seem to sound shrill compared to lesser equipment. This seems to be a fairly common complaint. I've heard the same about Krell, Crown, and many others. If your speaker has a tweeter level setting, turn it down. Otherwise, you may have to consider that this amplifier is just not a good match for your speakers so either one or the other will have to go.

...is known to be ever-so-slightly reticent in the presence and treble region, rendering it a bit on the mellow side of neutral.

I never thought the Paradigm's (with a quality CD, anyway) sounded too agressive, but some will disagree with me. As a matter of fact, I would consider these slightly "dark" sounding. Is the placement the same as before? The room can make HUGE differences in sound quality - but all things being equal, I suppose we are back to the amp.

Well, let's see... you have it now... let it run-in for a while, unplug it later, listen to the receiver alone at a later date, reinsert it, and see if it is still hotter sounding than the original. At least you have a point of reference. If you have some sort of money-back guarantee, you may want to unload it instead of being unhappy in the long run. If THAT doesn't matter, stick with it and see what you think. You can always unload it on eBay/Audiogon, if necessary.

I have had good luck with my Rotel stuff and would NOT call the gear hot sounding. As a matter of fact, I took home the much-talked about Odyssey (sp?) 100 WPC amp as a possibility - I thought THAT was brighter... pronounced the highs a bit more with a touch of siblance. Maybe the Odyssey is more detailed, but no thanks... not for me.

Again, if time is not an issue, let in burn-in for a while and see if there is any change. You can hook up/unhook quite easily.

Be sure to report back with any findings...
