Cable ProblemBaria
Apr 9, 2001 10:25 PM
My audio store just hooked my new Nordost SPM Innerconnects and speaker wires (bi-amped). They left about 6 hours ago, and I have been listening ever since. Definitely Worth the $7200. The cables aren't even broken-in yet, and I can already tell a difference. The sound stage seems to have broadened, and the bass seems more defined. I think the highs are better, as well.

My question. What is your experience as to break-in time? My store said about 4 weeks? Is that with continuous play?

You don't know how to attach your own cables?

I am fairly sure that I could, but I change out cables once a year so the store does it for free. They do some other checking, too, so I let 'em have at it. Next year I will probably get a trade-in on these cables because of their quality.

Do you have any experience with these cables? These are my first high quality cables. My old ones only cost about 10% of these.

I have no experience with those cables. I never will. They simply cost too much to justify for any system and for any budget! And you only think that you can hear differences! For that kind of money, I would require that my cables cook supper and draw my bath - just as reasonable an expectation as the cables making a 7000 dollar difference in my system's sound.

Four weeks for burn-in, how long is the store's return policy?

They are warranted for much longer than I will keep them. My store has a two week no questions asked return policy on new items. Demo items can be kept until they come get them.

If the claimed burn-in period is longer than the return policy, then I would be very suspicious. I'm already suspicious, but you know what I mean.
