| component cable junk? | joe mn Apr 10, 2001 7:48 AM | | I picked up a JVC XVD723GD DVD player this weekend to use with my Samsung PCJ534RF 53" HD ready bigscreen. i am using a 3 lead generic wire set with the component jacks. one lead is for video and the other 2 leads are for audio yet i am using all 3 for component video and i think the picture looks fantastic. are all 3 leads constructed the same on these generic wire sets? i want to get some dedicated video component cables and see if i notice a difference. any budget recomendations? |

| re: component cable junk? | Mono Apr 11, 2001 9:00 AM | | A related question. I was at radio shack yesterday looking for component video cables. I noticed that they have Audio/Video cable (yellow, white, red) also gold series for $25 (12ft) and the component video cables (red, green. blue) for $50 also 12ft. I asked the guy there if I can use the A/V cables and he told me that he tried the A/Vs as components and they dont work. Is it BS? I didnt get any cables. The A/V and the component cables look identical except for the color codes. Thanks. |
| re: component cable junk? | joe mn Apr 11, 2001 9:52 AM | | i asked the same question at a different RS and the salesguy said he did not know. i called another store and the guy said he had bought monster cables, either the level 3 or reference series and than had compared them to the RS models and he could tell no difference. the reason he bought monster cables was that 6 months ago RS did not have component cables. |
| re: component cable junk? | mtrycrafts Apr 11, 2001 9:11 PM | | The yellow cables are the ones you need, but only the yellow will do for the video. The red and the white is the audio cables.
The $25 gold seems to be too much for video cables but this is 12 ft. Is that how long you need? Are the $50 for all 3 and the $25 for only one, right? Perhaps they have just plain video cables for less which will be fine. |
| re: component cable junk? | Mono Apr 12, 2001 5:54 AM | | The $25 gold has 3 cables, 1 for video (yellow) and 2 audio cables. I guess my question is, could I substitute the 2 audio for video. They look the same to me. Perhaps a difference in impedence? Would those not work?
Anyway, I ordered the IXOS silver series component video cables from accessories4less.com for $35 (2 m). They seem like a good deal. How are these cables compared to Monster and RS? Thanks. |
| re: component cable junk? | mtrycrafts Apr 12, 2001 11:48 AM | | The audio may or may not work. It may not be the 75 ohm impedance video and digital audio needs.
That IXOS would be equivalent. |
