| interconnects | Mako Apr 15, 2001 7:52 AM | | I have a Pioneer Elite DV-09, Marantz SR-18 AV, Aerial 7B Speakers. I want to hear any opinions about playing CD's. Specifically, whether I should listen to my CD's through the analog outs of the DV-09 or the digital pcm out. Does it make any difference in sound quality? I use a Videoquest (by Audioquest)VSB-1 Silver plated LCG Direct Burial Video/Digital cable (whatever that means), but also have a MonsterCable Interlink DataLink 100 as an option for the pcm out. Any differences/preferences between these two cables? For the analog outs, I use MonsterCable M1000i.
With this setup, would the digital out or analog outs provide better sound/bandwith? |

The direct burial cable you can bury in the soil without other protection such as a conduit, and will be fine from the elements. Either of these two video/digital should give you equivalent performance. The analog and digital will both give you the same bandwidth and sonically should be equivalent as well. Don't let all the audio mythology take the pleasure away from the music. After all, that is what you are listening to, not the equipment. |

The best thing to do is to try them both, and listen, using demanding source material (sound only, so as not to be distracted by the video). See: http://forums.consumerreview.com/crforum?14@@.ee862ee/5 for more on this subject. As a guess, the DAC in the Pioneer Elite is likely to be better than the DAC in the Marantz, IF equal quality cables for each connection were used. This would indicate going analog IC's. Jon Risch |
