Subwoofer hook up.Techsan

I'm not sure how to hook up my Wharfedale subwoofer to my JVC receiver. My receiver has 1 RCA out plug however my subwoofer has a right (blk & red)and left (blk & red) out hook ups with standard wire connections. Any suggestions?

it sounds like your sub is not active or in other words has no built in amplification. If this is true you will either need a crossover network and a seperate amp for the sub or you may run it in parallel to your main speakers but this in itself can cause many problems. You will need to have some kind of network to limit the high frequencies from entereng the sub and you will need a way to balance the levels of the main and the sub. If the impedance of the sub and the main is below eight ohms for either one than I doubt that your JVC receiver will be happ with this configuration unless it is happy at high volume at a 2 ohm load. Use this formula to make sure the combineed impedance of both speakers is 4 ohms or more.

1/R1 + 1/R2 = 1/R3 where R1 = main, R2 = sub and R3 = combined impedance.

check the specs on your receiver to see if it can be used at 2 ohms.
....AND VERY IMPORTANT!!!
If you choose to do this you MAY NOT use any other speakers at the same time!!! or good bye JVC. I am assuming that this is a standard 2 channel stereo receiver.
