| Is it ok to put speaker cable under carpet? | Scott S. Nov 20, 2001 9:59 AM | | I want to put the speaker cable under the carpet to improve cosmetics and reduce speaker length. I have 16 gauge speaker wire that would run about 45 feet. My concern is if placing speaker wire under rug is that the nails that hold the carpet in place might cut the speaker wire. Please advise.

I think the answers are the same, too. |
| You can sweep dirt under the carpet but can you cut a rug? | itellitlikeitis Nov 20, 2001 3:29 PM | | I don't see why you can't put wire under a carpet. But 45 feet of number 16 wire might be pushing it a little far. I'd go for 12 gage. If you have tackless wall to wall carpet, you have to pull the carpet back off the tackless strip far enough to put the wire on the floor. you can secure it with tape but large staples used for securing romex that you nail in is probably much better. Just be sure not to pound them in too hard. Your best bet is to lay the wires neatly next to each other next to the tackless strip. These staples are available at Home Depot in the electrical department and they're cheap. |
