Splitting an audio signal - Good or Bad?Lupto

I know that this doesn't apply to high fidelity, but I am sure that members of this forum would know the answer. Forgive me for being off-topic. I had a DSS system that had 2 outputs, one to go to a Stereo system, the other to go directly to the TV. Does anyone know in general audio terms, what the effect of splitting the output signal from a device is? Does it degrade the signal substantially? It is a digital cable converter, but it has comparable output to a dvd player, DSS box, etc.

Thanks for your input and sorry if this might be a little off topic.

.....unless you wish to generate a massive release of uncontrollable, uncontainable energy, the likes of which the modern world has never before seen. Other than that, it should be ok.
