I just recently bought a dvd player, I am curious to what the best way to hook it up to my tv + receiver is. My Tv has Svideo in, A/V, and component (I think green, blue, and red), which would give me the best picture?

I figure for audio I should use an optical cable vs. the standard. For the cables will it really make a difference in the one I get or will the ones at radio shack be good enough? (Their optical I know is 34.99)
Thanks a lot!

Optical and component will give you best results. I wouln't buy cable to put speakers in a doghouse at RS, but I am sure others will disagree. I use Monster Cable for all my hookups. Never had a bad cable, never had a problem. Sony also makes good optical interconnects. Yes they cost more, and if you are just running them behind a cabinet where you can get to them if you need to, great. The laser signal on fiber is digital and pretty forgiving, but much of what I do becomes very hard to access later, so I go with quality vs price.

For optical, almost anything will do. These cables either work or don't generally. The only real difference is a slight difference in the holding power of the actual connector. Some tend to get loose just sitting there. But I don't know how to shop for that problem. Many have praised bettercables.com optical cables, which start at 39.99.

For video, component is the best. For component cables, try something like avcables.com or kustomkables.com. These make high quality cables for comparably little cost. RS video cables are better than some, but for the same price you can do a lot better.
