Something TRULY IMPORTANT to EVERYONEWarren Warren
Nov 30, 2001 11:05 AM
I have just learned the sad news that George Harrison passed away last night. He is one of the reasons I, and probably many of you, are into this hobby. He embodied what music was really all about, and his pioneering spirit as well as his incredible talent will certainly continue to be an inspiration for generations to come. I will not be posting any more today or throughout the weekend, as I am going to be busy listening to Beatles music and remembering a great man.

Our intrpid moderatar deleted a repsonse which called George's guitar abilities into question. As a musician, the deleted poster was correct. Harrison's gift was in harmony and structuring background vocals.
You cannnot escape 'Beatle' harmonies in music if you tried. This was George Harrison's contribution to music as we know it. Thank you George. Godspeeed.

I for one never cared for the Beattles or George Harrison. He was no Segovia or even a Chet Atkins on the guitar. Even by the Beattles mediocre standards of writing music, he was considered a lightweight. (None of them was a George Gershwin or an Irving Berlin.) I know that this goes against the grain of pop culture of the generation that lived through the sixties and seventies but I for one, think their simple ditties were boring. Worst of all, they glorified taking drugs in such obvious examples as yellow submarine and strawberry fields. Harrison died of cancer reportedly spread from his lungs. This is most likely the consequence of the stupidity of smoking cigarettes. I don't think this is the proper forum to write euologies for dead Beattles and in light of the events in the world today, it is utterly unimportant. Waren Warren, you don't speak for me.

You have no respect! Maybe this speaks of you as a person.

I am not a big Beatles fan, but I do recognize them as a very important part of the music world. This cannot be denied. You choose to disrespect George Harrison at a time of mourning. Just because you don't care for his music (preference), does not give you the right to rip him at this time. If you don't have anything nice to say about the guy at this time, don't say anything at all.

Yes of course there are more important things going on in the world. But life goes on, and when someone as famous, and loved as George Harrison dies, respects should be made. It may be unimportant to you, but seeing how popular the Beatles were / are, you sure do not speak for everyone, and are showing a true lack of compassion.

Warren Warren pays his respect, and you throw it in his face. No class!

I am wondering if the cable debate, and being on different sides has anything to do with this? If someone with your POV paid respect to George Harrison, would you rip him like you ripped Warren Warren?
Whatever the case, pretty sad that you let something as trivial as cables influence how you act toward someone else.

I for one am not mourning over the death of George Harrison. In fact, I couldn't care less one way or the other. I neither respect nor disrespect him. And I have every right to my opinion that he was no great asset and therefore no great loss to the world of music.

As for Warren Warren, he seems to feel that he speaks for everyone in his sentiments, but I repeat, he does not speak for me. And I would not have expressed my opinion here had he not presumed that he could.

it SEEMS to me like a personal attack with a contrived reason (excuse).
i rather like warrens correct representation of the spelling of you moniker.

I'm glad you liked my posting.

Warren Warren seems to think that George Harrison's death is important to EVERYONE. Well it isn't to me.

Last week, a real musician died. Isaac Stern. Ever hear of him? Compared to him, the four insects were musical midgets, their commercial success, fame, and wealth notwithstanding.

"Last week, a real musician died. Isaac Stern. Ever hear of him?"

Yes. I own a box set of his. So what? May he rest in peace.

You must be Russian...If so, I could care less. Viva la difference.

Glad to see, though, that I'm obviously not the only one who finds you to be lacking in compassion...and just plain rude for the sake of being rude, I guess. As I said earlier to you...whatever blows your skirt up.

R.I.P. George Harrison, and may God bless his wife, son and extended family.

Musika, I told you on November 29 that if you don't like the kind of things I say, you shouldn't read my postings. Too bad you didn't take my advice. You say I lack compassion and am just plain rude. To that you can add indignant, especially when other people presume to speak for me, tell me what I should find important in life, or what I should like and dislike.

When I said you must be British, you called me prejudiced. Now you call me Russian because I mentioned Isaac Stern. What does that make you? What is this anyway, 20 questions? OK, I'm next. I guess from the manner of your postings that you are a woman.

(God Stern's violin must have screeched on those Theils. Hope you didn't have a Krell to go with them.)

Das Vidanya

And no I'm not Russian, and yes I'm a terrible speller.

I'll read whatever I choose to read.

As far as I can tell, this is a civil right that most of us take for granted...and that appears to be on its way out, thanks to people like you.

Or maybe you just don't pay attention; you certainly are unable to comprehend the simplest of statements.

i wasnt running out and buying beatles records either but i did like a few enough to buy them. like it or not, they injluenced our lives.
nor was i running out to buy pot, hash, or other drugs as a result of their influence.
cigarettes either. unfortunately, once someone tobacco awhile, it becomes exceedingly difficult to stop, and it becomes a lifelong obsession.
i never looked at harrison as a virtuoso guitar player, just as part of the synergy that was the beatles.
i wouldnt speak for you itilii, its too bad you find this time to degrade the memory of gh.

"I for one, think their simple ditties were boring..."

I, for one, think your posts are boring (and utterly unimportant).

"Worst of all, they glorified taking drugs..."

Dad??? Grampa??? Is that YOU???????

"I don't think this is the proper forum to write euologies for dead Beattles..."

And I don't think this is the proper forum for which to point out that an adverb was needed when an adjective was chosen...especially when the one pointing this out cannot even spell "grammar" ('grammer'??? Try again.), or "Beatles", for that matter. ('Beattles'??? Strike 2.)

"...and in light of the events in the world today, it is utterly unimportant."

And in light of the events in the world today, everything posted here is unimportant. Duh.

Musika, for someone who was offended by a little joke about killing yourself over some stupid wires, you sure have your head screwed on backwards. Drugs have ruined more lives and lead to more depression and suicide than anyone can count. The only way to describe you is SANCTIMONIOUS HYPOCRITE.

"Drugs have ruined more lives and lead to more depression and suicide than anyone can count."

For once, I agree with you. However, I refuse to blame George Harrison or The Beatles for having been the pioneers of drug use promotion, as you insinuated.

"The only way to describe you is SANCTIMONIOUS HYPOCRITE."

Thanks for the attack. I hope you feel better, especially knowing that you'll most certainly get by with it since you are on the "right" side.

In the past few days, I've heard a lot of the Beatles music on the BBC and elsewhere and had a chance to reconsider and reflect on my opinion of it. And now that I have, I am reminded clearly of why I didn't think much of them in the first place and my distaste for them now is even greater. And that's just their music. I find their glorification of drugs repulsive.

I don't openly attack people frequently or without just provocation, although their ideas are fair game. But in your case, you fired the opening rounds and fully deserve what you got.
